Millions of men, women and children dream of becoming famous. From a very young age, many people are driven to see their name in lights and their faces plastered on every billboard in every country. And while millions of people dream of it, only an elite group of individuals actually achieve it.

There is finally justice for the Goldman family.O.J.finally got what he deserved.He got away with two brutal murders,but in the end he got what he had coming to him.Not enough time in my opinion but 5 to 18 years is still a long time in federal prison,and hopefully it will be a long and hard sentence.

What an idiot,he gets away with two murders and then turns around and does this.He is nothing but a common thug.Had the world by the balls at one time and now not only is he going to jail but he has certainly lost everything now.I hope he never gets paroled and does the entire 18 years.Bottom line is what comes around gos around. Today was the first time many of us actually heard O.J. Simpson say "I'm sorry" in a courtroom. His voice seemed to break and it looked like he was fighting back tears as he read a surprise statement to the judge. He explained: "I didn't want to hurt anybody. I didn't know I was doing anything wrong ... I stand before you somewhat confused." Simpson continued for about five minutes, sometimes rambling, as he talked about how he was merely trying to recover property that had been stolen from his family.


But when it was the judges turn to speak and she said three times I want to be very clear that I'm not punishing you for anything you have done wrong in the past as far as the law gos,you new she was not going to cut him any slack.And she didn't.

Apparently she's getting divorced, and that's probably sad, but a recent item quoted a Swedish pop star named Robyn, who had been invited by Madonna to open a handful of her European shows. Robyn had been excited to receive the invitation until she was informed that she and her crew were forbidden to approach Madonna, speak to Madonna, or take any pictures of Madonna. In response, Robyn said that,"My worst nightmare would be to turn into Madonna."


Certainly, it's difficult to know if anecdotes like this are true unless one experiences the wrath and disdain of a celebrity personally, but so many incidents like this have been reported that one begins to wonder whether fame can change one's personality.

The (mis)behaviors of divas fall into two realms, the personal and the interpersonal. In the realm of the personal lie the luxuries and freedoms to which these special people feel entitled. During the making of the boxoffice bomb Basic Instinct 2, for example, Sharon Stone's demands included three nannies, two personal assistants, a private chef, armed bodyguards, and travel by private jet. Why armed bodyguards? Well, perhaps they were needed to fend off the hordes of plastic surgeons whose services she has vowed she would never use. The truly boundarycrossing misbehaviors of divas lie in the interpersonal realm, however, because, for some reason, they seem to feel that the appropriate response to unsatisfactory behavior by one of their minions is the throwing of a cell phone. We have seen this from the Australian actor Russell Crowe, the former supermodel Naomi Campbell, and somebody named Foxy Brown.

What are some of the red flags that can help us spot celebs in the throes of divadom? How about speaking of oneself in the third person ("P. Diddy is not pleased with the price of jet fuel")? Developing an English accent for no apparent reason (Madonna once again)? The use of the fatal phrase,"Don't you know who I am?" (all of them). Yes, those and so many other behaviors can serve as red flags,
but we should primarily be alert to our own feeling that we become lesser or even nonexistent mortals on those rare occasions when we might find ourselves in a celeb's company.

So are these behaviors a consequence of our era of media saturation? Has the constant scrutiny of the media through the Internet, the tabloids, and the celebrity obsessed TV shows created a generation of monsters, or are they just more visible now than they were in the past? Elizabeth Taylor was certainly recognized as being a diva many decades ago. As Bette Davis once said,"The real problem with Liz is that she bought the little lost princess image invented for her at MGM." In a similar vein, I recall an anecdote in which Frank Sinatra was standing in a crowded party tent and decided that he would like to leave. Instead of simply remaining patient and proceeding in a leisurely fashion to the exit, he took out a switchblade, cut an opening in the tent, and walked out. Back in the 80s, the rap group Public Enemy released a song called,"Don't believe the hype." The problem with many of these divas, both past and present, is that they not only believe the hype, they believe that it's fact.

Perhaps to the same extent that we admire celebs because of their accomplishments, we also feel a secret thrill when they're punished for their moral failings. Celebrity is a doubleedged sword, and more often than not, an ascendance into the public eye, sometimes for little or no obvious reason (Paris Hilton, of course, sets the standard), is matched by a similarly precipitous decline through rehab and onto the set of Celebrity Fit Club. If these shooting stars knew in advance that their fame would require a Faustian bargain, would they opt out of the deal? Probably not, because the glare of the flashbulb can be quite seductive.

Because we're all human beings with both higher aspirations and certain baser instincts, we need celebrities. When they're on the rise, they make us feel better about ourselves because they show the heights to which anybody can ascend given the right opportunities and a modicum of talent (or in some cases no identifiable skills at all). Conversely, when celebrities crash and burn, they help us to feel better about ourselves because we haven't yet become dysfunctional enough to end up in that predicament.

While some might suggest that I should leave the analysis of celebrities' psyches to Dr. Phil, I should note that in addition to being a writer (by the way, check out my new satirical novel The Misadventures of Oliver Booth: Life in the Lap of Luxury if you want to have some fun at the expense of the selfobsessed), I'm a licensed clinical psychologist, so perhaps I can offer a few worthwhile insights into their oftentimes ridiculous behavior. In general, I do not believe that fame creates divas. Instead, I believe that certain people have a predisposition to narcissistic, exploitative behavior that becomes unleashed when they're provided with the power and freedom of celebrity. That same behavior might be demonstrated by any one of us if we were given the same opportunities. Divas, you see, they're just like you and me.

Angelina Jolie Is Paris Hilton’s Idol

Celebutante Paris Hilton has confessed in a recent interview that she would like to become Angelina Jolie. She looks up to the sexy mom and actress a lot and believes that the both of them would get along very well. “I love Angelina Jolie,” Paris gushes. “She’s strong but gorgeous and uses her fame for good to make a big difference in the world. This seems to be a very strange sentiment, coming from the 27-year-old heiress. Considering that Paris has been traipsing around the world with her new BFF Brittany Flickinger, whom she officially befriended on-camera on her latest reality show My New BFF, she seems to be contradicting herself. My New BFF, as the title clearly suggests, is a drawn-out audition for Paris’s new best friend, chosen from a roster of applicants from all over the United States.

In an attempt to clarify things a little bit, Paris goes on to say: “I have this great test to see if a girl’s a real friend. When we’re shopping I’ll pick out an outfit that I know looks hot and one that is awful. If my friend says the bad one looks good, I know she’s not a good friend.”

Paris newest reality show project is My New BBF (British Best Friend), wherein she lets Brits take a crack this time at becoming her latest tag-along. There will be fourteen people who will vie for the title, taking on a series of challenges that will test their BBF potential.

I find that most celebrities like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears and always talked about in the media. They are more like the modern day Elvis Presley of the past. He couldnt go anywhere without people following him around. Its amazing how much the world has changed over the years with the Paparazzi following celebrities around wherever they go.

I think that its amazing when people dont fully understand their surroundings and they have to really learn how to focus in on their own lives again. You need to look at your own life and feel a sense of belonging to yourself before you can let go of a celebrity obsession.

There is nothing wrong with being a common person. You dont have to be rich and famous to be important. Sometimes you may think that, but really when you are by yourself, you are just like anyone else. Celebrities are not exempt to any rule. They are just as sad and happy as anyone else. The next time that you pick up a celebrity magazine, you may want to ask yourself if you can fully understand what the person is talking about. You may also want to ask yourself if you are trying to be just like that celebrity and how you can change that about yourself. Being you is most important.

2. The ultimate fashion authority says so. Vogue dedicated several pages of its January issue to Katie Couric, Campbell Brown and Rachel Maddow. And not in an investigative "Which-designers-are-in-your-closets-ladies?" kind of way. No, it’s all business. Vogue celebrates the women transforming broadcast news, pushing the boundaries and taking the lead on asking tough questions.

3. The frivolous are taking heed. Meet the Recessionista, formerly known as the Fashionista. They’ve abandoned Carrie Bradshaw’s financial credo -- "I like my money where I can see it: hanging in my closet" -- for more conservative cues from the likes of Suze Orman... who, I promise, will never tell you Manolo Blahniks are sound investment.

4. Demetri Martin. Haven’t heard of him yet? Pay attention. Curiously politics-free and furtively smart, his new show, Important Things, made its Comedy Central debut last month.. Take your pick, because there’s a mountain of work to do. We can no longer afford the luxury of ignorance or keep waiting around for someone else do to the job.
